![]() That's why if I had to pick a player to lead a team of role players to play above their level, lead them to a deep run in the old east, I'd choose LeBron, but if I wanted a player who could dominate but allow others to dominate also, I'd take Kobe. LeBron is an incredibly ball dominant player, not in the sense that he doesn't look for teammates, but he is most effective when he is given the ball and let create for others, something that wouldn't be smart if you have a prime shaq. Kobe was perfect to play along shaq because he is most effective when given the ball and let create in a one on one scenario on the perimeter, this is key because Kobe would attack from the outside while shaq would attack from the inside. ![]() He'd get less rebounds because shaq is a monster in there, he'd get less points because he'd no longer be the first option, as well as having no to share the paint (a place he shoots from more than kobe, approx 35% vs 21% of shots from that range) His efficiency would drop because he wouldn't be able to direct the flow of the offence, picking and choosing when to shoot as much in a triangle designed to get shaq the ball. Does this mean LeBron is any worse at those things just because he has less opportunity to show them? He'd get less assists because he'd be feeding the post most of the game, which doesn't give an assist. If LeBron played with prime shaq for example, his assists, rebounds and points would suffer but his win count would go up. This is such a gross over simplification, just because they are wing players doesn't mean that their situations are at all alike. If you saw their career arcs flipped however, give LeBron better teammates, better coach from day one, whereas give Kobe the number one offence as soon as he was ready for it, you would see Kobe with better stats and LeBron with more wins. This gets dismissed however because wins are in fact a team accomplishment, whereas individual stats are obviously for an individual. People argue wins for Kobe because he has been on better teams so he has more wins. Raw stats are always going to favour LeBron because he was the number one option from day one and has always had complete control over his offence/team. Then a LeBron fan comes in and throws raw stats at him and gets a million up votes, because that's simple for people to understand. However the arguments you get for Kobe generally come from kobe 'stans' who don't give decent arguments, all they give you is kobe is a "killer" so he's better. People like to though, I think a lot of the LeBron favouritism comes from the fact that most informed people leave the topic alone. I really believe they played far too different roles/different situations to even be compared, realistically it's kind of impossible to determine which one is absolutely better. But I've never been a fan of just looking at numbers, because they'll never tell you just how great a player someone is, and they can be skewed. If we were only taking numbers into consideration, then yes, he is better. He is a better passer and decision maker (most of the time), and he is a freak of nature, but other than that, I can't see how people can so easily call him better than Kobe. On the other hand, while LeBron is amazing and definitely has the better stats, I never felt the same way about him. It was really unbelievable how sound his game was, and I never saw any weakness in his game (excluding his defense the past few years). He was just so skilled, so unguardable, and so good every time I saw him. Yet, I never saw anyone control games and single-handedly will teams to victory the way I saw Kobe do it. ![]() I've seen them both play for a very long time, and I've seen the best and worst performances they've had. But it seems that everyone around here, without hesitation, thinks LeBron is better than Kobe, while I actually disagree with that. I've been watching basketball since about 1999, and Kobe and LeBron are the two best players I've ever seen. Let me start by saying I'm not trying to start an argument, and that this is a serious question.
